Rapid 3DShield Tungsten Filament
Rapid 3DShield Tungsten Filament contains 92-95% metal and has a density of 7.8g/cc. This metal filament enables any Fused Filament Fabrication printer to produce metal objects.
Eliminate tooling and machining costs for short run manufacturing, prototyping, and one-off metal part needs.
3D Printer setup: Visit our Use Instructions page for full printing guidelines.
Temperature: 205-235°C (401-455°F)
Set print bed to 40-50°C (104-122°F) (optional)
Tip: Put a layer of blue painters tape on the print bed. Our metal filament Filamet™ has great adhesion to the bed.
Speed: 30mm/sec (1800mm/min) to start.
Layer Height: Many slicers lay down an extra wide first layer to get good adhesion to the bed. This is not a problem unless the first layer is very short. With traditional PLA, it will simply squeeze out at the sides. This metal filament is more viscous which slows this process. If the nozzle seems clogged, it may be that the nozzle is too close to the bed on the first layer. Once dialed in, some users are printing down to a layer height of 0.1mm.
Nozzle: 0.6mm. This material will print with nozzles down to 0.3mm, so try going down in size once experience is gained. Best results will be achieved with a gem-tipped nozzle. Hardened steel can certainly be used, but the nozzle will wear quickly.
Spool Placement: Reducing friction and pull on the spool during printing is important. Try hanging the filament spool just above the printer.
Note: Rapid 3DShield Tungsten Filament does not require the use of a FilaWarmer.
As a test of printing parameters, a 1cm cube should weigh the same as the density number printed on the spool label.
No sintering trials have been conducted on this material. Check The Virtual Foundry's Use Instructions page for guidelines to get started with the sintering process where needed.
