FAQ:
❓ Can I print this on my printer?
✅ Filamet™ is compatible with nearly all FFF/FDM based 3D printers on the market. Switch out the nozzle for a 0.6mm hardened steel nozzle and get printing! The list of printers that have been used and the ones that are not compatible can be found here: https://thevirtualfoundry.com/trusted-printers/
❓ What sintering equipment do I need?
✅ You need a kiln capable of reaching at least 1250°C in an inert or reducing atmosphere. The TVF Sintering Kiln, FireX, and FireX Max are all compatible with Stainless Steel 17-4. See our debind and sinter instructions for full profiles.
❓ What makes 17-4 different from 316L?
✅ Stainless Steel 17-4 is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel that can be heat-treated after sintering to achieve significantly higher hardness and tensile strength than 316L. It's the preferred choice when mechanical performance is the priority over corrosion resistance.
❓ How strong are parts right off the printer?
✅ They are quite a bit stronger than you may expect. You can throw them around a little and handle them just fine. Generally, they will not handle load nearly as well as the base PLA would on its own.
